Missions are objectives that Captains can clear daily, throughout the story, and during events to gain various benefits such as stamina, EXP, coins, items, etc.
They are split into three different types:
- Story
- Daily
- Battle
The three types are explained in more detail below.
Story
Story missions, as their name implies, are rewarded upon completing each story stage. This includes Normal, Hard, and Supreme difficulty. They are by far the biggest source of EXP during lower Captain levels, and are still useful for free EXP as you progress through the story, even while clearing Hard and Supreme difficulty. New captains will also receive several benefits from additional missions in this category as they reach certain levels or stages.
Additionally, as some Valkyries hit certain affection levels, there may be a quest related to them in this section that allows them to achieve the next affection level. Be sure to check missions if your Valkyrie's affection isn't leveling up anymore!
Daily
Daily missions are an integral part of the daily routine in Honkai Impact. Many of the missions reward substantial amounts of EXP for doing normal in-game activities. Each daily mission also grants Duty 
that rewards items after accumulating daily. Daily Missions are listed below:

In addition to normal dailies, each week you can also clear Weekly, Battle and Sensei missions. The first mentioned award an average amount of BP but lots of EXP and Duty, the second one awards large amounts of BP, while the later awards lots of Honkai Pieces, Coins for you and School Inspector Emblems for your Sensei so be sure not to forget them!

"Gazing at the Abyss" used to be called "Infinity Abyss" before the debut of dirac sea and number of floors was changed accorddingly(3 -> 5, 8 -> 10).
Event
Event missions can sometimes be found during events and reward any range of items. They usually involve clearing certain stages or fulfilling certain objectives. An example can be found below.
